What is behind the temporary suspension of I-REC issuance in Indonesia
The I-REC Standard Foundation announced on 23 August 2022 that it is temporarily pausing the issuance of I-RECs for twenty Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in Indonesia. It seemingly affects all production devices registered under the I-REC(E) system in the country. Instead, PLN argues that all sales of green attributes need to go through the state-owned power utility, which also has a monopoly on power distribution in Indonesia. We take a closer look into the details behind this development.
